La moneda oficial de 19 Estados miembros de la Unión Europea.

Hoy se cumplen 25 años desde que se decidió ponerle «euro» a la divisa oficial de la mayoría de los miembros de la Unión Europea.

El 16 de Diciembre de 1995, líderes europeos decidieron que la nueva divisa que sería lanzada el 1 de Enero de 1999 se llamaría «euro».

El nombre debería de tener estas características:
-Ser el mismo en todas las lenguas oficiales de la EU.
-Haber tomado en cuenta los diferentes alfabetos usados a través de Europa.
-Debe de simbolizar a Europa

Poco más de 3 años pasaron y el euro fue lanzado, primero como una divisa electrónica y posteriormente como papel moneda y monedas en 2002.
